Gerry Saumure

1945-2026

The credo by which he lived...

" I would rather be ashes than dust!

I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze,

Than it should be stifled by dry rot,

I would rather be a superb meteor,

Every atom of me in magnificent glow,

Than a sleepy and permanent planet.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist,

I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them,

I shall use my time."

  Jack London

Born in Port Colborne, Ontario to Wilfrid and Hélène Saumure. He was husband to Elida (Polverari) for 59 years, and father to Dan and Brian (Nancy).

He will always be in the hearts of Elida, his boys, grandchildren Ève, Hugo and Sophie, nephew Derek, niece Marnie, sister Rita (David) and sister-in-law Norma. Fondly remembered by nephews and nieces Rick, Theresa (Thom), Mark (Cyndi), Todd, Krystine Ann (Tim), Dave and Stephanie  (Ted); as well as extended family and friends.

Gerry was predeceased by his sister Lucy, brother John (Ghislaine), sister Jeanne (Pete) and nephews Mark and Doug.  He was also predeceased by several close friends and in-laws.

Gerry will be cremated in a private family ceremony, again free to roam the lakes, forests, rivers, streams, trails and roads that he loved...
